questions to ask plywood supplier

Questions to Ask a Plywood Supplier Before Your First Order in Malaysia

IN SHORT

Before a first order, ask a plywood supplier six things in writing: what is actually in stock, the exact specification, the test report and what sample it covers, who the company is, how delivery works, and what the warranty does and does not cover. A supplier who answers all six plainly is easier to work with than one who answers only on price.

Plywood can be bought from hardware shops, timber yards, importers and warehouses, and they do not all sell the same thing. A cabinet maker or contractor choosing a regular supplier needs more than a quotation. These questions are written for buyers who order in volume and want fewer surprises on delivery day.

Is the plywood really in stock, or on order?

Ask whether the thickness and colour you need are held in the supplier's warehouse today or have to be brought in. Stock and indent orders are both legitimate, but they produce very different lead times, and a project schedule is built around the answer. JIYU holds 18mm and 6mm in its Puchong warehouse, and for any other thickness we ask buyers to check whether it can be ordered. Ask also about batch consistency: if you need many sheets of one colour, find out whether they come from the same production batch, because slight colour differences between batches can show up on a long run of cabinet doors. Get the stock answer in writing and note the date, as stock changes.

Is the specification written down?

A supplier who quotes on a phrase such as good quality 18mm board has left room for argument. Ask for a written specification listing the thickness, sheet size, number of layers, face finish, formaldehyde grade and quantity. JIYU's standard sheet is 2440mm × 1220mm, and its 18mm board is made of 11 layers. Check that the colour or pattern code is on the quotation, and ask whether a sample or colour card is available to approve before the full order. A clear quotation protects both sides because the delivery check later becomes a comparison between two documents. If a supplier will not put the specification on paper, treat that as information about how a dispute would go.

What test report backs the grade?

The formaldehyde grade is a claim until a report supports it. Ask which standard the grade follows, which laboratory tested it and which sample the report covers. For reference, GB/T 39600-2021 sets ENF at or below 0.025 mg/m³, E0 at or below 0.050 and E1 at or below 0.124, measured by the climate chamber method. JIYU's submitted sample measured 0.022 mg/m³ in report JC26-WT0087 from the Liuzhou Quality Inspection and Testing Research Center. That report is for the submitted sample, so it is not a promise about every individual sheet. A good supplier will give you the report number and explain its limits instead of using the grade as a slogan.

What company details should you ask for?

Ask the supplier what registrations it holds and in whose name. Registration is not a quality guarantee, but it shows that the business exists in the form it says it does. JIYU SDN BHD is a company registered with SSM, company number 202601016841, and operates from Perdana Industrial Park in Puchong. A company registration says who you are dealing with, not how good the board is, and the board evidence is the test report above. Be wary of any supplier whose paperwork is vague about whose name a registration is under, or who describes a registration as an approval of the product. When in doubt, ask for the number and check that the company name on it matches the name on the invoice.

How do delivery and the warranty work?

Find out who arranges transport, what the lead time is from order to dispatch and what happens if sheets arrive damaged. JIYU dispatches within 3 days of an order, and arrival depends on the courier or transport company you choose. Delivery to East Malaysia is not a standard door-to-door service and needs its own arrangement. On warranty, ask what exactly is covered: JIYU's 10-year limited warranty covers manufacturing defects in the board only: delamination, cracking not caused by external force, and moisture blistering caused by a manufacturing defect. It covers the defective board and not labour, installation or transport. A supplier who tells you clearly what is not covered is easier to deal with than one who promises everything.
