IN SHORT
A plywood specification is a short written list that fixes the thickness, sheet size, number of layers, face finish, formaldehyde grade and quantity before the order is placed. Writing it down means the supplier, the workshop and the person checking delivery all measure the same board against the same words.
Some plywood disputes start with a phrase like good quality 18mm board, which means something different to everyone who reads it. A written specification takes a few minutes to prepare and removes the argument at the point of delivery, when the sheets are already on site. This guide lists what to include and what to ask the supplier to confirm in writing.
A specification turns a conversation into something both sides can check. Without one, the supplier's idea of the board and yours can differ in thickness, in face finish or in grade, and you only find out when the sheets are cut. A written list also helps your own team: the workshop knows what it is cutting, the site supervisor knows what to inspect, and the accounts person knows what the invoice should say. It does not need to be long. One page that names the board, lists the details, and sits attached to the quotation and the purchase order is enough. If you buy repeatedly for the same kind of project, keep the sheet as a template and change only the quantity and the colour code each time.
Start with the dimensions. State the thickness for each use, the sheet size, and the number of layers where it is known. JIYU stocks 18mm (11 layers) in the 2440mm × 1220mm size, which is the 4 by 8 foot sheet, and also stocks 6mm. For any other thickness, ask the supplier whether it can be ordered rather than assuming it is available. Add the quantity per thickness, and say whether you want sheets of one batch kept together so colour and finish stay consistent across a job. Name the core you expect, such as multilayer plywood with cross-grain layers, so nobody substitutes a different construction. If a part needs a particular grain direction, say so, because it affects how sheets are cut and labelled.
The face is what your customer sees, so it deserves the same care as the size. JIYU's boards leave the factory with a melamine face already pressed on, so the order should give the colour or pattern code from the colour card, and say whether the pattern runs along the sheet. The 6mm back board is faced on one side only, with a plain colour on the other, so state which side must show. Ask the supplier to confirm the code in writing, and ask whether a colour card or sample can be viewed before the full order is cut. If you need edges to match, say what edging you will use. Keep a photo of the approved sample with the order, so any later difference can be compared with something concrete.
Write the grade as a number and a standard, not as a slogan. Under GB/T 39600-2021, tested in a climate chamber, ENF is at or below 0.025 mg/m³, E0 is at or below 0.050 and E1 is at or below 0.124. JIYU's board is ENF grade, and a third-party test report, JC26-WT0087 from the Liuzhou Quality Inspection and Testing Research Center, measured our submitted sample at 0.022 mg/m³. That report covers the sample that was submitted, so say that plainly in your own paperwork rather than writing that every sheet was individually tested. Ask any supplier to name the standard, the grade and the report number on the quotation, and to state which sample the report covers.
Put the delivery terms where both sides can read them. JIYU dispatches within 3 days of an order, and arrival depends on the courier or transport company you choose, so the order should state who arranges transport, where the delivery goes and who receives it. For East Malaysia, delivery is not a standard door-to-door service and needs its own arrangement. Add a line saying the sheets will be checked on arrival against the specification, and keep photographs of the label and the edge together with a note on the delivery order. A short, specific order makes the delivery check a matter of ticking items rather than arguing.
What is the minimum I should put in a plywood specification?
Thickness, sheet size, face and colour code, formaldehyde grade with the standard, quantity, and delivery terms. Add the number of layers where you know it.
Do I need the test report with every order?
Ask for the report number and what sample it covers each time you set up a new supplier. Keep a copy with your project file so it can be shown to a customer who asks.
Can I order a thickness other than 18mm and 6mm from JIYU?
Our stock is 18mm and 6mm; other thicknesses need a question first.
How do I get a quotation from JIYU?
Send your specification on WhatsApp, including thickness, quantity and colour code, and we will quote on it.
How many sheets do you need?
Enter your cabinet size and get a cutting list plus an estimate of 18 mm and 6 mm sheets.
