Plywood price · Malaysia
There is no single plywood price in Malaysia — which is exactly why two quotes for the same “18 mm 4x8 sheet” can be far apart. The number is set by thickness, ply count, core species, adhesive, formaldehyde grade, face finish, order volume and delivery point. Most quotations state only the first one, so buyers end up comparing figures that were never for the same product. Below is each driver, and how to make two quotes actually comparable. We do not publish a price list — a figure that ignores your thickness, volume and delivery point would be wrong for most buyers. Send the specification and we will quote your order.
The eight things that move the number
Run down this list with any quotation in front of you. Anything the supplier cannot answer is usually where the price was saved.
| Driver | What varies | Why it moves the price |
|---|---|---|
| Thickness | 9 / 12 / 18 mm | The most obvious line, and the only one most quotes state clearly. |
| Ply count | 9-ply vs 11-ply at the same 18 mm | More, thinner plies means more cross-lamination — flatter, better screw hold, more cost. |
| Core species & fill | Hardwood core vs soft filler, gaps vs solid | Where cheap 18 mm hides. Two sheets can measure the same and behave nothing alike. |
| Adhesive | Soybean-based vs urea-formaldehyde resin | A real bill-of-materials difference, and what makes ENF grade possible. |
| Formaldehyde grade | ENF / E0 / E1 | Tied to the adhesive above. ENF is the strictest class under GB/T 39600-2021. |
| Face & finish | Raw, veneer, melamine-faced | Changes both the price and whether you still need to laminate afterwards. |
| Volume | One pallet vs container | Standard for any material. |
| Delivery point | Klang Valley vs outstation vs East Malaysia | Sea freight and inland transport land differently. Check if it is in the quote. |
How to compare fairly
Quotes only become comparable when the specification is fixed. These four are enough to stop the common mismatches.
Not just “18 mm”. Ask how many plies. 9-ply and 11-ply at the same thickness are different products at different prices.
A grade on a label is a claim. A report number is checkable. Ours is JC26-WT0087, tested at 0.022 mg/m³ against GB/T 39600-2021.
Especially for outstation and East Malaysia. Two quotes are not comparable if one includes transport and the other does not.
Ask what is covered and for how long. JIYU covers delamination, warping, cracking and moisture blistering for 10 years, one-to-one replacement on the board.
The expensive kind of cheap
On a cabinet or wardrobe job, board is a fraction of the total. Labour, hardware, finishing and the time to build it are the rest — and all of that gets spent twice if the carcass has to come out.
Replacing a swollen sink-base carcass means stripping hardware, re-cutting, re-finishing and re-installing. None of that is on the original quotation.
A cheaper sheet with no cover is not cheaper — the risk simply moved to you, and it lands as a callback.
Any supplier who has been shipping for a while has had one. The answer tells you more about the board than the price does.
Questions we get asked
There is no single figure, which is why quotes for the same 4x8 sheet can differ widely. Price is set by thickness, how many plies are in the panel, what the core is made of, which glue is used, the formaldehyde grade, how much you order, and where it is delivered. Ask two suppliers for a quote on the same specification and the numbers become comparable.
Because a published figure would be wrong for most buyers. What one customer pays depends on thickness, volume and delivery point, and a list that ignores those is either misleading or so hedged it is useless. Send us the specification and quantity on WhatsApp and you get a real number for your order.
Usually the core. A panel can be sold as 18 mm while containing fewer, thicker plies, softer filler species, or visible core gaps. It measures 18 mm and costs less, but holds screws worse and moves more with humidity. Ply count and core species are the two lines most often left off a quotation.
Yes. ENF grade requires soybean-based adhesive rather than the cheaper urea-formaldehyde resin, and that adhesive costs more. It is a real difference in the bill of materials, not a marketing tier.
Delivered cost is generally higher in East Malaysia because of sea freight and inland transport from the port. The board price is the same; the landed price is not. When comparing quotes, check whether delivery to your site is included or quoted separately.
Volume affects the number, as it does with any material. Our minimum is one pallet (50 sheets) so a first order stays small while you test the board in your own production. Terms for larger and repeat volumes are discussed directly.
Buying by the pallet directly from the supplier rather than by the sheet from a retail yard, and specifying the same thing to every supplier you ask. The most expensive mistake is not paying too much per sheet — it is buying a cheaper sheet that has to be replaced, with the labour of rebuilding on top.
Thickness, quantity and delivery point is enough to start. We will come back with a quote and the test report for the grade you are quoted on.
